I'll be a senior at my high school this year, and in order to graduate seniors need to complete a senior project. Now is when I tell you about mine. B0)
At the end of last school year, my art teacher and I sent a letter to a sales rep of Wacom, asking if the company would donate or lend 10-20 drawing tablets to my school in order to allow me to teach a digital art class to the students and public. In my studio art class I started taking in my tablet and doing digital work there. My teacher also got her first tablet at the beginning of that year. But so many of my classmates had never heard of or seen a tablet before, and were confused about digital art and how it worked. Throughout my experience with digital art, a lot of people seem to dismiss it when they hear it's done with a computer - they don't realize how much is really in control of the artist, and how it's really very like traditional art. So I decided to teach a digital art class.
The letter was recieved but never replied to, not entirely surprising, seeing as it would be incredibly generous and out of their way for Wacom to do this for our school. SO I've started fundraising the money to get tablets to teach the class. I'll be trying to earn atleast $780 in order to purchase 10 Bamboo Splash tablets. They are rather small, but they are designed to help transition between traditional and digital, plus they are the cheapest tablets Wacom is offering currently. ALL of the money I make from adoptables and commissions go towards this fund for my project. I have also started selling custom hand-painted shoes, and will shortly be putting those up and setting an etsy up for them as well.
Now let me elaborate on the class: I've only got a rough sylabi written up just yet, but I do know it's all working up to the final project - a charity art book. Each student will create a page (x1 page or x2 pages) for the book. YOU GUYS are invited to join in on the book, as well! More information on the book later, when more things are certain! TO TEACH the class I'm planning on giving the lessons on working on pages for a children's book I'm writing - about my little sister. She was diagnosed with acute leukemia when she was young, and battled the cancer with chemo therapy. The book is our story and it's purpose is to be there for other family's that have to battle cancer together as well. All procedes from the art book, the digital art class, and the children's book, as well as any additional money from fund raising, will be donated to the Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon, where my sister got her chemo and BEAT cancer.
As of now the project is still pretty up in the air until I get more time to talk with my project mentor, but that's the general idea. :0) School starts Wednesday and that's when more details will start falling into place.
